Economic Forum of Bosnia and Herzegovina 2017 in Sarajevo

The first Economic Forum of Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in Sarajevo, on 9th February 2017. This was the first in a series of events to mark 65 years of existence of the Economic Faculty of the University of Sarajevo (EFSA). Representatives of i-dijaspora also attended the Forum.

This event brought together representatives of government, business and academia in one place with the aim of improving the economic and business environment in BiH. The organisator wanted to highlight that actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina can mutually agree, therefor no foreigners were present at the Forum.

The Forum consisted of four panels - a reform course for the business environment, the path of Euro-Atlantic integration of BiH's competitiveness, the business community: opportunities and challenges, and the voice of the academic community.

At the participated panels among others: FBiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić, Minister of Finance and Treasury of BiH Vjekoslav Bevanda, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Mirko Sarovic, Central Bank governor Senad Softic, director of the Directorate for European Integration Edin Dilberović, professors at the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo Zlatko Lagumdzija and Dženan Đonlagić, president of the Association of foreign investors in BiH Branimir Muidža, and many more.

The general conclusion of the first participants of the Economic Forum of Bosnia and Herzegovina is that in 2017 priority should be economic issues. BiH must make best steps forward in order to create a good environment for investors. Overall in BiH there are many positive examples, which the general public is not aware of. It was also emphasized that economic indicators for 2016 are not so bad and that is encouraging, but that generally the state lags behind the region. The biggest problems for BiH represent competitiveness, economic freedom and the ease of doing business.
