St.Gallen University's Migration Research Project - Call for Interviews

Sandra King Savić, Lecturer and Postdoctoral Fellow at University of St. Gallen conducts migration research as part of her work at the University. The research aims to gather as many experiences as possible from people who have decided to continue their lives and work outside their country of origin.

Inquiry

My name is Sandra King-Savić. I am a lecturer and postdoctoral researcher at the University of St.Gallen. In my capacity as a migration researcher, I am looking to talk to people who moved from former Yugoslavia to Switzerland between 1960 - 1990/1995 to find work. I would also like to talk to people who came to Switzerland during the 1990s Yugoslav Secession Wars. It is my intent to learn about the experiences individuals made upon migrating to Switzerland, and what it means to build a life in a new country.

All interviews and conversations will be kept anonymous. No private data will be passed on to third parties.

Project Synthesis

In my project I want to explore the following question:

What does ‘integration’ mean to a person who has migrated?

How, more specifically, do former Yugoslav migrant workers and refugees describe their experience of migration and arrival?

At the end of the three-year project, I plan to publish a book on Jugoslav labor migrants and refugees in Switzerland, and their experience of migration, arrival, and ‘integration’.
