This is an initiative that was created for the purpose of making girls and women more visible in the world of information and communications technologies (ICT) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). IT Girls’ goal is to encourage young women to start thinking about computer science early on, take up coding and increase their opportunities for education and successful careers in this field.  

IT Girls initiative has so far been supported by the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Swedish International Development Agency, making it possible for us to start more than two years ago with first sets of workshops in basic web site development for girls aged 13-15. 

We now want to step into computer science classes in primary schools in BiH and motivate girls to explore and build the world around themselves, as well as to inspire others to do so. 

While working with girls in different cities, we asked them how they would like to study computer science in school, and they told us – in a fun and practical way!

One of the platforms that make this possible is Arduino. It’s like a set of building blocks, only digitalized. 

We want to get Arduino sets for at least 6 schools in BiH, organize workshops for up to 120 girls and donate the sets to the schools so that girls could use them to teach their peers. 

In order to do this we have launched a crowdfunding campaign. We need your support to spread the word about our cause, so that more people have the opportunity to support future female scientists in BiH.
