The portal dijaspora.mhrr.gov.ba was established in the framework of the project "Diaspora for Development", a joint project of the Government of Switzerland and Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the promotion of the interactive web portal for the diaspora of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Semiha Borovac, Minister of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Andrea Rauber Saxer, Ambassador of Switzerland in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Nirvana Pištoljević, President of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS), addressed the audience.
The primary goal of this portal is to establish two-way communication between Bosnia and Herzegovina and our diaspora. An important thing to stress regarding this portal is the fact that it is an expression of willingness and especially an idea of the diaspora to create such a portal that would be a common point of communication.
In addition to news, documents, and project information, the portal will enable the diaspora to express their ideas and projects and to thus participate in the creation of public policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and particularly certain policies that are important for the diaspora, and to therefore also impact the economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The diaspora of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a source and wealth of information, skills and values that can be useful for its home country, and many of its members have already expressed their interest in helping Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Such a platform ensures unhindered communication between the diaspora and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Members of the diaspora will be able to share their experiences acquired abroad, their ideas, activities and their know-how in the relevant areas and to promote diaspora initiatives for the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The portal will, among other things, also contain a consolidated address book of institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as diplomatic and consular representatives of the country abroad and a register of organisations of the diaspora of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The portal will ensure the participation of diaspora members in the creation of public policies within the competence of the Ministry and other institutions and it will also be used to publish information about business opportunities and public calls regarding financing of projects or applications for grants.
